| Chapter 19 - Bluetooth | < ^ > |
I do not use Bluetooth so I have not spent any time configuring this. My main use for Bluetooth would be to wirelessly connect my laptop to a BT-enabled mobile phone for GPRS internet connection. The Flybook has a GPRS mobile phone built in so no need there. I also do not like wireless / bluetooth mice as I'm sensitive to the lag.
With kernel BT support as detailed above, the hardware is recognised via USB hotplug when the power is turned on via Fn + F10. As with the Wifi, it appears the kernel module is not unloaded when the power is turned off, however I am not sure if this is a problem since the Bluetooth hardware doesn't need a firmware install on load.
Bluetooth connection to mobile phones will be more of an issue for people in America or Japan. As I understand it, the GSM standard for mobile phones is pretty much global, but there are large CDMA networks in the USA (Verizon?) and Japan has a different standard as well (I think that GSM is fairly widely available in the USA though, from T-Mobile and perhaps others).
If anyone has essential need of Bluetooth and the kernel config presented here isn't up to the job, send me a mail with what's needed and what to install, and I'll add it to this page.
